Role: Retail Assistant
Reporting to: Assistant Retail Manager/ Retail Supervisors
Purpose
This job description is a guide to the duties you will initially be required to undertake and the personality traits you are expected to portray whilst at work. It may be changed from time to time to incorporate changing circumstances, and you may be required to be flexible and perform other duties as required by your manager.
Outline of the Post
To be part of a motivated, trained team with the appropriate skills to deliver a profitable retail outlet and ensure all targets are achieved. To assist the management team in the day-to-day running of the business. Excel in the areas of operational excellence, financial performance and customer satisfaction to achieve company objectives within all Company policies, procedures and guidelines. To provide excellent standard of Customer service, creating a warm, friendly environment that attracts new customers whilst retaining existing customers.
General Duties:
To serve Customers showing highest standard of Customer care at all times. Provide a helpful and friendly service in order to maximise sales.
To sell and promote retail products to customers in an efficient and friendly manner, including promotion and in-house special offers
To handle cash and use and EPOS till, including handling of debit/credit cards and account charges. In some instances may be responsible for the till reconciliation at the end of the day.
To keep clean all work areas during and after opening hours and remove all waste to the appropriate area.
To move stock as directed, replenish shelves; ensuring proper stock rotation, and merchandising products appropriately.
To receive stock, store and check for quality and quantity; ensuring that all stock is dated and rotated. Ensure the store room and always secured and tidy.
To demonstrate thorough knowledge of EPOS systems and have the ability to take responsibility of ordering a product range.
To maintain the highest standards of health and Safety Whilst at work. Adopt a 'Don't walk-by culture and report any potential hazard or faulty eqwuipment to the Assistant Retail Manager.
Adhere to the Best practices of Licensing Objectives under the LICENSING ACT 2003. Thereby ensuring that Alcoholic beverages and tobacco is only sold to Customers above the age of 18.
To attend work looking clean, smart and wearing the uniform provided.
To attend and complete all compulsory trainings as required.
To carry out other adhoc duties which qualify as a reasonable request for the role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The person specification describes the knowledge, experience and abilities that the Conferencing, Hotel and Retail Department is seeking for in prospective retail Assistants. To be successful during the selection process you should demonstrate:
A responsible, flexible can do approach to work duties with a passion to provide high standards of customer care, maximise sales opportunities and supports colleagues to achieve personal and team goals.
Strong Customer service focuses with awareness of your impact on the customer experience.
The ability to communicate effectively with customers, team members and the management team.
Experience of Cash handling, use of EPOS system and electronic ordering system.
Ability to work efficiently as part of a team but also responsible enough to be a lone worker in some instances.
A flexible approach to work with excellent punctuality and commitment.
Ability to balance academic work with your commitment to the shop throughout the academic year.
Knowledge of the Licensing objective under the LICENSING ACT 2003 e.g. Challenge 25!
