SECTION LEADER - CHEMICAL PROCESS OPERATIONS

Purpose of the Role
To lead and manage the Primary Operations Area. To plan and co-ordinate the monthly productions schedule in accordance with agreed quantity, specification and costs. Liaise with other Section Leaders to co-ordinate all phases of production and take prompt action to rectify and prevent any occurrence which will effect health, safety, the environment, security or production.

Key Accountabilities

Production Planning:
Liaise with Production Manager in forecasting monthly production targets and agree monthly production schedules.
Allocate tasks to teams to maximise the use of resources and meet agreed schedules for the production of all metals and other special products as specified.
Responds to variances in plan in line with receipt levels, contract requirements and inventory control
Liaises with other Process Section Leaders to optimise material flows and thereby maximise production, minimise inventory and reduce return times.
Keep appropriate production records to evaluate performance.

Resource allocation:
Liaise with Production Manager to establish budgets for the area of responsibility.
Demonstrate cost awareness by monitoring and control of resources and activities relating to cost efficiency and enhancing value.
Liaise with Engineering and Technical Departments on all aspects of operations to maximise production and minimise down time. This includes maintenance, projects, process trials and the planning installation and commissioning of new plant.
Write and update operating procedures and general risk assessments.
Carry out the Duty Manager role (when required) for the late shift on weekdays and on Saturdays. Perform the Call Out Manager role.

Team Development:
Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships within the Section and across the Department. Identify development needs of employees within the Section and contribute to recruitment, induction training and operational training provision to develop a multi-skilled flexible team. Maintain appropriate records as required.
Ensure the Team understands and adheres to company and legal standards. Maintain discipline and deal with poor performance.

Health, Safety & Environment:
The role holder is accountable to take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, work standards and governance requirements in the area of accountability.
Maintain appropriate safety and environmental records.
Ensure that all plant and work areas are maintained in a good condition, with a high level of cleanliness to minimise exposure to all in-process materials and reagents. Particular regard must be paid to lead containing materials and soluble platinum salts.
Actively seek the elimination of all accidents and incidents in the workplace.
Ensure all incidents are reported using the Incident Report Procedure and any Incidents which may be reportable under RIDDOR are brought to the attention of the Production Manager.
Ensure all work is carried out safely using approved working practices and procedures and using high standards of operational cleanliness and environmental control Investigate incidents as required and put in place improvement action plans.
Ensure that all equipment and facilities used are in safe condition.

Continuous Improvement:
Lead continuous improvement programme in section.
Initiate and implement opportunities for change in services, products and systems.
Demonstrate improvement in all areas (i.e. Health and Safety, Environment, Costs, Production, Security, etc).
Actively involve and communicate with all team members on these matters.

Security:
Ensure the security of materials within the process.

Relevant Experience
Previous experience of leading people is preferable.
Educated to graduate level or significant relevant experience.
Minimum 3-5 years experience in chemical process plant or similar industry.

Skills & Competencies
Good leadership skills.
Willingness and aptitude to do a wide range of tasks.
Fluent knowledge of English.
Computer literate with basic knowledge of MS Office applications.

Salary
£37-£39k + Bonuses + Pension + Healthcare
