Purpose of the role
Provide Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) support across all operations including taking the role in ensuring that the Company complies with all the relevant regulations and its ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 accreditation. Coordinate day to day operations of the SHE Department to ensure that the SHE related requirements are met. Develop procedures in conjunction with users, providing specialist input across a wide variety of SHE activities. Reports to and deputises for the Safety & Health Superintendent in periods of absence.


Major Accountabilities
Provide support to ensure all regulatory and corporate reporting requirements are met (including monthly internal reports, GRI data, RG 00014 and regular management reports and presentations)
Write and review specialist risk assessments, and take an active role in improvement the company risk assessment processes
Help compile reports on SHE data for management and internal discussions
Ensure that the regular personal and static monitoring programs are completed to schedule.
Responsible for the waste management across the site including advising on SHE issues relating to selection of contractors and duty of care visits.
Ensure safety data sheets are available for supplies and process/product materials
Assist with the roll-out of Corporate SHE initiatives
Develop and review relevant SHE procedures and provide training where appropriate
Lead or participate in incident investigations
Organise the various occupational health monitoring programs audiometric tests, blood lead tests, supplying prescription safety glasses, face fit tests, etc.
Monitor OH to ensure completion of the various programs
Identify all opportunities for minimising the environmental impact of the company's operations, implement improvements identified
Carries out assigned actions from the SHE Management Programme
Ensure all projects receive the appropriate SHE review, including capital projects in compliance with Corporate Instructions and Guidelines
Responsible for the operation of the Company's ISO14001 environmental management system and OHSAS18001 safety management system
Help to identify SHE training needs and develop programmes to meet those needs
Identifies and implement further improvements relating to SHE
Ensure that all equipment and facilities used are in safe condition
Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships within the Section and across all Departments
Attends courses and meetings associated with job requirements

Health, Safety and Environment

The role holder is accountable to take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, work standards, and governance requirements in his/her area of accountability. Ensure adherence to safe working practices and approved standards in order to actively seek the elimination of all harm and Safety, Health & Environmental incidents.

Relevant Qualifications/Experience

A NEBOSH General Certificate is a requirement for the role, but can be provided if the candidate can demonstrate prior commitment and interest in the area of SHE
A degree or equivalent in Chemistry or a related subject is desirable, though not mandatory
Keen interest in Safety, Health and Environment as a career
2-3 years industrial experience is essential with preference to those with a chemical industry background.
